Russian Mil Mi-28 Night Hunter gunship attack helicopter has lost the Indian tender for 22 heavy weight gunship helicopters to the USA AH-64D Block III Apache gunship helicopter.

AH-64D Block III Apache gunship helicopter package will include:

22 AH-64D Block III Apache
50 General Electric T700-701D engines
1,350 Lockheed Martin AGM-114 Hellfire missiles
245 Raytheon Stinger missiles
12 Lockheed/Northrop Grumman APG-78 fire control radars
23 Lockheed modernised target acquisition designation sight/pilot night vision sensors.
Whole Apache package will be worth about $1.4 billion.

Russian Mil Mi-28 Night Hunter gunship attack helicopter is arrmed with Ataka-V anti-tank missiles, 30 mm Shipunov 2A42 gun and Vympel R-73 air-to-air missiles while Amderican AH6-4 D Apache can carry AGM-114 Hellfire Anti-tank missiles , 30mm M230 Gun and AIM-92 Stinger AAMs .

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is also developing Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) which is based on the Indian Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH).

Indian air force is looking to order 65 LCH while Indian army will purchase 114 LCH armed with M621 20 mm cannon on Nexter THL-20 turret and anti tank missiles.
